In my mid twenties I moved to Warsaw, Poland and set about writing a series of short stories and books for children; the results were 'Spring Vampire' the story of a narrow boat adventure for kids of 6 - 9 years and 'Sea Fires' a sequel for slightly older children.
During this time I also had 'Swallow' printed as a slim story book for children of 5 - 7 years. The first two I illustrated myself, but Swallow was illustrated by a brilliant Polish illustrator.

After living in Poland for three years, I moved back to the UK to live on my narrow boat on the canals and, after meeting the father of my three eldest children, I wrote 'Billy's Magic Bike'.

It is also a tale of self-discovery, an exploration of the meaning of 'home' and it is also about sustainable living - and Doveyfire has survived as a settlement because it has always had many aspects of a Transition Town.
The story of a journey that six characters undertake by boat from the floating boat settlement of Doveyfire (which has parallels to a town in the Dyfi Valley 500 years in the future, shortly after the lat of all fossil fuels hae run out) to the strange and beautiful Sea Fires.
